VIDEO INTERVIEW- CRAIG: ‘WHY I MISS THE OLD SCHOOL’

Craig_DavidIt’s hard to believe it’s been 10 years since British singer/songwriter Craig David released his debut album Born To Do It. To me, that album is still one of the best UK albums of the last ten years, if not the best. It really set the bar when it came to fresh new ‘urban’ artists making music from the heart, and not trying to fit into the generic pop formula.  Gems such as Fill Me In, 7 Days, Walking Away and Rendezvous sound just as invigorating  as when they first came out, with the videos just as memorable!

Southampton-born Craig burst unto the mainstream music scene in 1999 appearing on the Artful Dodger single Rewind. Now, just over ten years later he is releasing his fifth album Signed Sealed Delivered, which features a selection of cover songs from the legendary Motown stable, such as current single One More Lie (Standing in the Shadows), the chorus of which samples The Four Tops’ 1967 Motown classic Standing In The Shadows Of Love.

We were recently invited into the star’s humble (well, if humble means swanky London pad) to chat about his new LP, his past music AND of course his old school memories….. Peep below for the exclusive interview.

  1. I agree with you totally. For me, other than Amy Winehouse’s Back to Black, Craig David’s Born To Do It album was my absolutely fave UK album of the past decade. Without a doubt! His follow up album Slicker Than Your Average was pretty damn good too. Unfortunately his more recent stuff is too ‘middle of the road’ for my tastes but the talent is still there. I rate Craig David – alot!

    • Yup, Born To Do It is a classic album, still play it hard today! And agree with the Amy comment too. It’s quite sad that we can only think of two in the last 10-20 years though innit? As much noise as peeps are making about UK music now, how much of it will be relevant in 10 years time, or am I just getting old? lol!
