Lady Gaga may want to change her name to ‘Lazy Gaga’ as anyone who has heard her latest single Born This Way would have clocked that the melody is almost identical to Madonna’s 1989 hit Express Yourself.
Ironically Gaga caused music fans to give even more major side eye when she thanked Whitney Houston as the inspiration for the song during one of her Grammy acceptance speeches (She won three on Sunday 13th, Feb). I doubt anyone had a problem about her showing love to Whitney, more the fact that instead of thanking Whitney for that particular song, she should of been up there publicly writing Madonna a check for damn near covering her former hit. Maybe it was being cooped up in that egg, she arrived in for so long that confused her. Bless (I do like Gaga, but had to laugh at that!).
This is not the first time Gaga has been accused of copying the material girl, this sentiment has been dogging her since the start of her career, as many older music fans see Gaga’s crazy antics and ‘shocking’ attire as merely following in Madonna’s footsteps, as the original queen of shock as well as pop.
If you haven’t been following this story, check out both songs below, and see what you think.
Despite the similarities, during as on one of her promotional interviews post Grammys. Gaga hit back at the accusation, telling Jay Leno that Madge has already given her blessing to the song. She said:
‘There is really no one that is a more adoring and loving Madonna fan than me. I am the hugest fan, personally and professionally. Well the good news is that I got an email from her people and her, sending me their love and complete support on behalf of the single. And if the queen says it shall be, then it shall be.’ Doesn’t change the fact that it is a blatant rip, but if Madonna is cool with it…. Check the full interview below! The Madonna comment is at the 8:30 mark.
