Raw like sushiThe years 1988 and 1989 were extremely pivotal for me when it comes to music. This period spanned my first year of secondary school, the time I really started buying music for myself. So, unsurprisingly a lot of the albums I bought then, with my own pocket money, shaped my early teen years and still mean a lot to me today.

PositiveK

This memorable 90s tune, by Positive K, will go down in urban music history for one reason, and one reason alone, and that is for giving men a licence to harass! Before this song came out, a woman always had the excuse ‘I got a man’, if she wasn’t interested in someone’s advances.

In fact ‘I got a man’ could mean anything from ‘You’re ugly, I don’t fancy you’,  ‘Oh my God, your breath stinks, get away from me’, to… ‘I do actually have a man.’ The beauty of that line is that it was effective and inoffensive and it almost always got women out of an uncomfortable situation.

Jodeci-nowNOW
Jodeci recently made their way back onto the music scene via the song and video Knockin’ Your Heels Off, a collaboration with fellow 90s s r&b group H Town. While the song isn’t bad per se, the video has had the Internet a buzz due to the deteriorated appearance of the group, most especially Jodeci’s former resident pretty boy Mr Dalvin. Imisstheoldschool.com are surprised people are…err… surprised about his form as this is not the first time we have had a look at how the past years have treated Jodeci. Their UK show a couple of years ago, coupled with less than flattering pictures, which have been circulating the net from time, already gave us that idea.
